Approve or Reject PR estimates from Slack

We know you’re busy and don’t want to switch between tools to get things done.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that you can now approve or reject Pull Request (PR) estimates from Slack if you’re a client on the Team or Enterprise plan.

Approve or Reject from Slack

What are PR estimates?

At GitStart, no two PRs are alike. We operate on a usage-based model where we charge per PR, not per hour developers spend writing code. This is the best way to align incentives in software development and ensure transparency and predictability.

For each ticket you assign us, we create one or more PRs.

From there, we follow a simple process:

  1. We estimate the complexity of each PR. We use a combination of machine learning and human insight to do this.
  2. We share the PR estimate with you. We do it in Slack if you’re on the Team or Enterprise plan, as well as in our dashboard. You can approve or reject the estimate. If you reject, we ask you to share a reason so we can better understand the scope and share a new estimate. If you approve, we’ll start working on the PR.
  3. Once the code is done, we update the PR with the final cost. This value will always be within the initial estimate.

For this to work:

  1. You need to be on the Team or Enterprise plan, where we use a Slack integration to share PR estimates and updates.
  2. The email address you use to log in to Slack needs to be the same as the one you use to log in to GitStart.

If you meet these requirements, you’ll see a notification in Slack when we share a PR estimate with you. Click the button, and we’ll record your response immediately.

If you reject the estimate, we’ll ask you to share a reason so we can better understand the scope and share a new estimate. This information is shared with the developers working on the ticket and PR.

That’s it!

We hope this makes it easier for you to work with GitStart and get more done.
