Irys is a fast growing startup operating out of San Antonio, Texas, USA. With a mission to improve the quality of life in communities through the use of technology communication, the company has been able to raise substantial capital through their recent pre-seed and seed rounds.
Through community driven analysis of real-world information, IRYS is making products that offer meaningful solutions to issues that impact everyday life. A multi faceted platform, the IRYS team is trying to improve every process from urban asset management to data visualization.
The founding team at IRYS connected with GitStart in Q3 2020 when they realized a need to improve their engineering velocity, especially on the front end. As frontend work is often easier to outsource than backend, the initial set of front end coding tasks paved the way for a quick 2 week trial. After a highly successful trial in which GitStart shipped out PRs for some of the tasks in IRYS’s JIRA backlog, CEO Beto signed up on the Basic Pricing Plan and got GitStart onboarded fully onto their codebase.
With the addition of GitStart, adding fresh energy and momentum to the engineering team, both teams first worked on a responsive React based front-end for the Irys community app. The Irys Community app enables citizens to initiate service requests for identified issues and notify the municipal departments that can address these concerns. From potholes and power outages to sinking sidewalks or missing manhole covers, the app covers everything.
With deep expertise in React Native, GitStart has played a crucial role in helping launch a newer upgraded mobile experience for IRYS end users. The Irys I.AM Is a platform designed to be utilized internally by her issues to the appropriate local government departments providing an efficient way to identify, track, and resolve issues in the community.
Says CEO, Beto - “We initially started with giving front end tasks to GitStart so the team can focus more on the logic, backend and user experience. With the frontend development going full speed, we have slowly expanded usage of GitStart and started working on backend tasks together. GitStart’s standup system and daily slack updates have been a big boon in helping us get real time visibility into the engineering effort and stay on top of things.”
“We look forward to doing deeper work with the GitStart team and getting them involved more early on in the sprint planning phase so that we can scale even faster. In general, we are happy with how transparent and open the relationship has been. GitStart has taken our feedback well and implemented slight changes to their process to suit our needs.”
Overall, the GitStart - Irys relationship has been an immensely fulfilling experience, one where both companies have learned from each other. The relationship looks set to grow and encompass deeper areas of collaboration over time.
